  • Easy-to-do dye packet, with the dye and citric acid in individual tea bags as well as instructions
  • A variety of exclusive knit/crochet patterns to choose from

Spin Off Fiber Kits

These kits offer the fiber, fiber information sheet with suggested spinning details, dye packet, and tote bag but do not include the actual pattern itself. The pattern is available for purchase through the web address listed on the pictured pattern sheet. Even though the pattern is not included, for the most part, more fiber is required to make these items; therefore the prices vary, depending on the amount of fiber required. As an affiliate, I do receive a small commission from the sale of the pattern.

Wool Tincture Dyes

Wool tincture dyes are acid dyes. The dye as well as the citric acid are neatly packaged in individual teabags so there is no measuring or danger involved. Just heat water in a large kettle and pour the hot water into a prewarmed glass jar with the dye teabag. Insert the wet yarn and then add the citric acid teabag. Stir the wet wool to get even dying and after about 20  minutes remove your dyed yarn. Wrap in a towel to absorb excess moisture and hand to dry.

Heritage Fleece Knit/Crochet Patterns

Each sample is knit/crochet from hand-washed and hand-combed fiber (100 g.) of that specific breed that was then hand spun and hand dyed using one of the dye packets  included with the kit, making sure that these items would be attainable by spinners spinning to the suggested weight of yarn. The knit/crochet samples are not included in the kit but are a visual example of what you can achieve with the specific breed of wool.

How-To Picture Book

After much testing of different methods for washing and preparing a fleece by hand, I have developed a slow, bite-sized way to process that produces organized locks arranged by tip orientation, opened up by flicking to create easy-to-comb fiber. Using this method, anyone can hand process a fleece at their own pace according to what they have time and space to accomplish. Most equipment is affordable and can be locally sourced. There are a few items that are higher priced and that will need to be sourced through a local yarn shop or online. I have made this picture book, Preparing a Raw Fleece for Spinning, to walk you through the whole process.
